“Drawing Together”
Weekend Family Workshops
What is it?
Led by our professional Teaching Artists “Drawing Together” Family Workshops are an opportunity to explore contemporary art and/or the neighborhood of Red Hook through games, art making, poems, outdoor explorations and more!!
Our goal is to provide rich art explorations for children and adults that teach skills related to looking at and making art but that also help you and your child to create, look, and explore TOGETHER.
Where is it?
Programs take place at the gallery (though sometimes may meander to neighborhood spots so come prepared for outdoor drawing just in case).
353 Van Brunt Street between Wolcott and Dikeman Streets
When is it?
THIS Weekend!!
May 9 and 10
10:30-12 (for ages 4 and up); 12:30-2 (for ages 8 and up)
Please note: While the workshops will be geared toward these age groups ALL ages are welcome to come to either workshop.
What do you do to participate?
We prefer that you pre-register. If you “drop in” we may or may not have space for you and your family.
To pre-register: Call 718.858.5072 or email omcquarrieo@gmail.com and speak to Program Manager Mollie McQuarrie .
Please arrive 10 minutes early so that we don’t give someone else your spot.
How much does it cost?
It’s free!!
Who are the Teaching Artists?
Kate Baird lives in Brooklyn and works as a teaching artist for the Guggenheim Museum and the Kentler International Drawing Space. She received an MFA from the University of Chicago in 2005. Her paintings, drawings and prints explore ideas about place and the natural world and can be seen at katebairdart.com. Kate will be teaching the Saturday workshops.
Meghan Keane is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist inspired by hair, gender, microscopes, and the unexpected beauty of things society deems repellent. She is currently a Visiting Artist at the Brooklyn College Art Department Printshop. Her work can be seen at meghankeanestudio.com. Meghan will be teaching the Sunday workshops.
Many thanks to Independence Community Foundation for funding this program.
