After-School Program with Red Hook Initiative: Spring 2015

Yesterday we wrapped up our After-School program with Red Hook Initiative. Teaching Artist Ruth Wetzel led a 10-week course for middle school youth called "Our Bodies in Space." Throughout the program, students explored ways to represent the physics of the body and environment -- gravity, movement, breath-- and their appearance -- perspective, proportion, and setting. They used themselves, other people, animals, and even plants as subjects to study the concept of space.

Students and RHI staff ventured out to Kentler yesterday afternoon for their final workshop, portfolio review and celebration. They had the opportunity to work from the "150 Works on Paper" Benefit exhibition, featuring over 150 original artworks of varied media, styles and subjects. The students drew organic and geometric forms from observation and finished and discussed earlier works from their portfolios.

Take a look at some of the very impressive contents of their diverse portfolios!

Thanks to Samora, Jade, all of RHI's dedicated chaperones, and Ruth Wetzel for providing another successful program to the talented young people at RHI. Congrats to all of you on your hard work! Check back next week for a wrap-up of our After-School program with Good Shepherds Services!
