K.I.D.S. Art Education
Kentler International Drawing Space is a non profit arts organization located in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
The K.I.D.S. Art Education program brings innovative art-making experiences to students, teachers, and families in and around Red Hook. With our diverse community in mind, Kentler is committed to using contemporary art as a platform for inquiry, exploration, and empowerment. All programs are based on Kentler's exhibitions of drawings and works on paper.
Our programming includes School, After-School, Residency, and Drawing Together family weekend workshops.

Fall 2013 After-School Program: RHI
Last Wednesday, middle schoolers from our After-School program with Red Hook Initiative were in the gallery working from the exhibitions by Michael Kukla and David Ambrose. The theme of their fall program, "Draw Small + Draw with Grids" is based on concepts from these shows, and the students were excited to see the work close-up.
Students were asked to draw details from the work, focusing on lines and patterns that were interesting to them. Some chose to emulate the rich, colorful compositions of David Ambrose, while others gravitated towards the tightly-rendered and warped hexagons of Michael Kukla's installation.
In the end, everyone had the opportunity to explore both exhibitions, discuss their differences and similarities, and reinterpret elements from a range of artworks. Here are some of their accomplishments:
