This morning, Ruth introduced some new art-making methods, including ways to puncture paper and create layers with glue and powders. First, kids and parents laid a piece of paper onto a carpet and used sharp pencils to create holes in the style of David Ambrose's artworks.
Then, at a special workstation, they added glue and chose from a variety of "shakers" containing red pigment, glitter, charcoal powder, sand, and sawdust to adorn and texturize their drawings.
The results were really interesting and beautiful! All participants laid out their work for the group to see, and took turns explaining their process. Some thought of constellations, planets and other objects, while others focused on ornate patterns, designs and "original shapes." Thanks to all of our DT families for coming out to support the program and for taking one last look at these fabulous exhibitions!
At 12:30, Ruth and I moved over to the P.S. 15 playground for a drop-in program as part of the PTA Fall Flea. We offered similar prompts and materials to those families who stopped by to participate. We made some new friends, so hopefully we'll see them at the gallery for a Saturday program soon!
Overall, a successful and beautiful day! Thanks for checking in on the K.I.D.S. Art Ed. program; stay tuned for more posts as we move into our next show: TRACES: Drawings in Motion.
