Drawing Together Roundup: Late Fall 2014

There's lots of exciting new work to report on as K.I.D.S. moves into late fall!

On November 7, Kentler opened a fantastic new group exhibition of contemporary water-based Japanese woodblock prints, New York Mokuhanga. The variety of styles, subjects, colors and shapes found in this beautiful artwork has made for an interesting array of activities and projects. From printmaking to tissue collage, families have been enjoying the Drawing Together programs related to this accessible yet complex work.

Have a look at some of the lovely and unique responses so far! Here is Victoria's fall harvest still-life workshop from Nov. 8, during which families painted tiny vegetable portraits onto "artists' trading cards" using watercolors:

On Nov. 15, Julie Brunner led a workshop on "imaginative landscapes" inspired by Ursula Schneider's prints of arctic mountain ranges. Families used tissue paper to mimic the translucence of mokuhanga's water-based pigments:

At our most recent workshop on Nov. 22, Victoria introduced a simplified printmaking technique using a blunt pencil, foam core, silver paint, and a basic brayer. Everyone printed up a storm, producing perhaps the largest output of DT artwork ever!

We are so excited by the enthusiasm and support of our Drawing Together families and are thrilled to welcome some new "regulars" into the experience! If you and your family would like to participate in Drawing Together-- held every Saturday morning from 10 - 11:30 at Kentler-- please contact sallie@kentlergallery.org for more information.

There will be no program the morning of Sat. Nov. 29 due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Enjoy your weekend and we will see you on December 6th!
